I don’t even remember which Saturday it was, but it happened between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Our oldest daughter was home from college, everyone was over the creeping crud, the house was tidy, dinner was simmering in the oven, and I just stopped in that moment. Stopped still to look around my home, to see my husband and my children, and I had a moment of crystal clarity. I often chafe against the ordinariness of my life, but in that moment I saw its richness.

New Name Let’s meet again, for the first time. If you could introduce yourself to strangers by another name for just one day, what would it be and why?

Yes, I know that’s the name of my Inner Brat. I admire my Olivia because she’s undaunted by the world, sassy and willing to speak out, even if it is just to tempt me. I’d like to be sassier, to be able to tell it like it I see it, instead of tempering for politeness.
