I'm So Going to Do This!

‘I, Angela Pea of Keeping the Faith sign up as a participant of Self-Stitched-September. I endeavour to wear at least one handmade, or refashioned item of clothing, accessory or piece of jewelry every day for the duration of September 2010’

Thanks to Susan at Darling Petunia for the heads up – hope you feel better soon!

One of the most important aspects of sustainable living is reuse, including clothing and accessories.  Remember when you were a kid and all you ever got to wear was hand-me-downs from siblings, cousins and neighbors?  How you seldom got new clothes unless you were the tallest kid in your Mother’s world?  Guess what?  That doesn’t have to end just because you grow up.  While brand new clothes from a major department store is an enviable luxury, handmade or refashioned clothing can be just as grand, just as beautiful and just as luxurious.   AND you get the smug satisfaction of of claiming “sustainable living”.

I started today by wearing my most favorite summer skirt – black linen with all over white embroidery,  originally made by me from some stash fabric and recently taken apart and remade by me to be two sizes smaller. 🙂  Here’s a link to the original creation.  Trust me – it still looks just the same only, er…smaller.  Two inches smaller through the hips and three inches smaller at the waist.  (Yeah Me!)

Sunday, Sunday! – and a Suprise Milestone!

Logged onto WW this evening to track my food, exercise and weight, and Taa-Daa!  When I put my weight in I got a spiffy Bronze star!  10% of my body weight lost.  Who knew it came with a star!
I went to Zumba class again today at the Y.  LOVE IT! I tried to convince Teen Daughter #2 to come into the studio with me, but she wanted to run on the elliptical and lift weights.  Chicken!

Learning to Run – Week 8 – Speedwalk Session 1 & 2 – Life and Relief!

Hello Chickies!
Bet you thought I fell off the face of the earth, didn’t you?  No such luck – I’ve just been up to my eyeballs with life.  I’m still at it with the speedwalking – First training on Tuesday evening at the Y, and the second one yesterday at lunchtime.  Yeah, I KNOW there’s supposed to be a rest day inbetween, but I just couldn’t resist the temptation of cooler temperatures.  More details below…
We’ve successfully released our oldest child into the wild.  She’s off on her college adventure, and the rest of the family is feeling pretty sad this week, especially Mom and Teen Son#2.  He’s been slipping into her room and sleeping in her bed. I did really well on move-into-the-dorm day; didn’t shed a single tear.  I was afraid that if I did, it would collapse the entire family into a slobbering mess and nothing would get done that day.  I only lost it last night when I set five plates on the dinner table instead of six.  Her chair looks so empty!
Relief?  This blessing came in the form of a cold front, knocking us out of those relentless 100+ degree days!  27 days in a row of temperatures in the hundreds and heat indices in the hundred-teens.  Yesterday the high was 82.  What did I do to celebrate?  Hit the pavement at lunchtime and worked on my speed for the 5K. Made it in 47 minutes, including warmup and cooldown.  It was glorious to be outside!
I’m also down another pound.  Keep up the good work, friends!
