Friday’s Letters – November 22, 2013

friday's letters

Dear Winter  – Seriously?   Couldn’t you just ease in like a normal season?  It wasn’t necessary to just barge in with your freezing rain and sleety self, shoving our pleasant eighty degree end of summer days out the door.

Dear Intuitive Surgical – Wow.  I’m totally impressed with your creation – the da Vinci surgical robot.  It’s going to make my surgery a lot less invasive and cut recovery time to just a few weeks instead of a few months.  Don’t you think you were just a bit pretentious to name it after THE Leonardo da Vinci?  After all, he painted Jesus’ portrait on the wall of a convent in Milan.  And he invented flying machines. And scuba gear.  And robots.

Dear Dr. Cloven  – Please drive that thing very, very carefully.

Friends, we are now T-72 hours to Cancer Eradication Day. The surgery will be Monday morning at 8:00 am, and I will be in the hospital until Tuesday evening.  I ask you to keep my family in your prayers, for courage, patience and good humor in the next several weeks as I heal and recover, and as we discover what the final prognosis for this cancer is. I also ask that you pray for Dr. Cloven and the surgical team who will be working on my body early Monday morning, for steady hands, clear minds and quick reactions!

Linking up with the Ladies at Suscipio for the Friday 3-2-1.  Go visit today – this is an amazing group of women who pray, love, and support one another.

Keep the Faith.

More Minutes – November 18, 2013

::news from the cancer battlefield –
Dr. Cloven called me about an hour ago…as far as she and her associates can tell, the CT scan was clear!!! That means that there is a better chance that the cancer has not spread.  Lymph node testing will be done when I have the surgery to confirm.

Thank you all for the continued prayers for my family and me. We appreciate it so very, very much.

Minutes – November 18, 2013

::faithful – praying for my kids today – Strep Throat!  Exams! Papers! Homework!  Toss in a crazy schedule now peppered with Mom’s bazillion doctor appointments and yeah, they’re looking at a long week ahead.  It’s all good, though.  We’re smiling, the weather is spectacular, and so far juggling schedules of who needs to be where, who needs to be picked up and what’s for dinner are all working out okay.

::news from the cancer battlefield – CT scan was the past Friday.  It was an interesting  experience, to say the least.  I understand that machine and I are going to be really good friends before this is all over, as there will be many, many followup scans post treatment to be sure that all is clear.  Dr. Cloven should get the images in her office today. Mr. Pea and I have started researching specialists and clinical studies at M.D. Anderson, just in case we need to follow up there.  I need to confer with Dr. Cloven about preserving tissue samples in case they’re needed later for confirmation at M.D. Anderson.

::The Project – Well, as part of the OVERALL project, we finished painting the outside of the house!!  Thank you, Mr. Pea!  (I did spend some time looking at appliances this weekend.  Couldn’t help myself.)

:: pondering – more like worrying.  No, make that praying for guidance to not worry.  The church by our house had this quote up on their sign: “Worry never robs tomorrow of its sorrow, it only saps today of its joy.”  I looked it up, and it’s attributed to Leo Buscaglia. I choose JOY!  Now if my brain would just cooperate…

::delicious – I’m cooking double this week, prepping meals for the surgery and recovery  week that Mr. Pea and the boys can finish preparing quickly or just heat up.  Yes, they can survive left to their own devices, but I don’t want to indulge in a week of sandwiches and carry-out while I recover.  Selfish me!  ha ha ha

  • Pot Roast with Potatoes and Roasted Asparagus
  • Sloppy Joes, Green Beans, Sweet Potato Fries
  • Layered Enchiladas in the CrockPot
  • Vegetable Soup, Turkey Sandwiches
  • Roasted Chicken, Garlic Potatoes, Broccoli
  • Chicken Spaghetti, Spinach Salad
  • Beef Stew

::fun – Mr. Pea and I went to see Prairie Home Companion live!!  Absolutely amazing.  I have loved this radio show forever and a day.  To see it in person is astonishing – there are a lot of people that make the show happen, lots of shuffling around on the stage and papers flying.

::fashionable – I’m wearing brown dress pants, a dark purple with splashy brown/green/beige floral print, boots and jewelry.  Actually, they aren’t boots.  Per my style knowledgeable daughter, these are known as “shoeties” half shoe, half bootie.  Weird. I just chose them because they were cute and comfortable.

::looking ahead – Doctor appointments, finishing some baby knitting, wrapping up a HUGE project at work! Yeah!
