Conversations With the Inner Brat – Crazy

Why do you keep doing this?  I mean, you’ve been doing an excellent job of maintaining for months, but you haven’t lost any more weight.

I know, Olivia.  It stinks.

Seriously!  You just got out of an hour-long class where Mr. Bryan made you swing weights, do squats and a bazillion push-ups. You also have bruises on your arms from the kettle bells, and all that work isn’t making you any lighter!

Class is fun, Olivia, and it was only eighty push ups. I’m building some core strength and toning my muscles.  Don’t my biceps look great?

So what.

We can’t give up. We have to keep fighting.

Fighting!  Like hitting and biting and scratching? I can do that!

I’m sure you can, Olivia, but there will be no biting and scratching.  It messes up teeth and manicures.  Hitting?  You can do that, but only with punching bags or for practicing self-defense with Mr. Bryan if he’s wearing the padded suit. Or for bad guys if we ever meet them.

But you said Fighting!!  I’m mad about all this work and I want to fight. Kick. Scream. Slap someone silly.

It means we will be persistent, Olivia.  Stubborn, mule-headed.  We will keep on eating sensibly and exercising until we are the healthiest us we can be. No matter what the scale says.

Olivia, Leading the WayOkayFine.  You’re crazy, you know.  Why the heck did you go and sign up for a 50 Mile Bike Race?  It’s off in the middle of nowhere on unmarked country lanes.  I’ll have to be the guide and we’re going to get LOST!

Come On, Olivia!  You know The Architect really wanted to do this race, and because I’m a responsible parent, I signed up with him.  We’ll go out this weekend and drive the course to be sure it isn’t too terrible. Besides, I’m pretty sure Mr. Pea will come along and play Sag Vehicle while The Architect and I race. Oh, and there’s always GPS!!

Be crazy brave. Keep the Faith.

E2E Challenge – Week 2 – *Yawn*

*yawn* – I’m tired.  It’s been a long busy weekend, and I’m jealous of my kids who have tomorrow off of school!  Since my eyelids are drooping, this will be short and sweet.  Here’s my weekly recap.

1. Item of clothing and a picture of me.  Nope, Not done yet.  I  did get online and search a bit as spring clothing is being released, but that’s as far as it went.

2. Weight This Week: 159.9? What?  Up again?  Gads.  I need a break, body!

3. Goal Recap

Shed Five Pounds:  Actual poundage still heading in the wrong direction, but not for a lack of trying.  I ate well, and exercised plenty. I biked 50 miles during the week, two kettlebell classes, pilates mat work every day.

Do Five Pullups:  I can still do one.  And a half.

Firm Up the Arms:  Yep again.  Bryan taught us a new lift with the kettlebells for firming arms all around.  We shall see. I totally forgot to count the pushups, but there were a lot of them. I’ll put a note on the mirror to remind myself this week..

4. Books

Refuse to Regain.  I like it better the second time around.

I continued to read along with Jenny at  A Minute Captured.  Reading my my Bible is proceeding.

5. Catch up with the Challenge Buddy.  Hey Jo!! Yep.  She and I are both busy, but I did manage to pop by her blog a few times this week.

7. Visit Other Challengers:  I hit many of your blogs this week, prayed for those who needed praying over, smiled at all the successes, cheered for those of you who are persisting and carrying on.

8. I do hereby solemnly swear to NOT QUIT.  Amen.

Keep moving. Keep the Faith.

Why I Love Cold Fronts

Most of you have figured out by now that I live in north central Texas. It’s blazing hot most of the year, incredible thunderstorms and tornadoes roll down over us from the Great Plains, and, thanks to the Gulf Stream, the wind blows almost constantly.  Constantly, I tell you.  This can make outdoor cardio exercise like running or biking a special challenge, especially if you have asthma or allergies.  On my bike runs, I usually go south along the Trinity River, so that the wind will be at my back on the trip back to the office.

In the 16-24 hours prior to a cold front sliding across us, the wind stops.  I mean it totally stops as the pressure of the arriving front temporarily blocks the Gulf Stream.  Yesterday was one of those glorious day.  So what did I do?  Hopped on the bike and took a 10 mile ride at lunch time.   Only yesterday, I rode NORTH along the Trinity instead of south! A whole new view!

Thanks to no wind, the river was like glass, and the sky was brilliant. These ancient train trestles were so pretty in the sun.  It was an amazing outing.

Ride with the wind. Keep the Faith.
