Minutes – July 2

::faithful

Praying for friends who are recovering from illness and surgery, and for other friends who are helping their loved ones recover from illness and surgery.

Grateful for – cool temperatures!

::healthy

Walking Miss Kasey Mae, biking and just scurrying around.  I’ve started up on the push ups and sit ups again.

::pondering

Time.  It really does heal.  What  difference a month makes.  I’ve gone from being unemployed to being a sad, new employee still yearning for her old job to Wow!  I have a FANTASTIC new job and I really, really like it!  It’s all good, my friends, all good.

Painting.  Not me, the Pea Kids.  They are painting the wrought iron fences this week and they look so shiny and new again!  As soon as they finish the fences, they will start caulking and cleaning the house trim in preparation for PAINTING THE HOUSE!!!  Oh yeah, you heard me right.  We finally, finally decided on a color, the rain has stopped and we’re being blessed with unseasonably cool temperatures this week.  So my hard working kids are working their fannies off sprucing up the house.  Oh, and they’ve also cleaned out all of the landscaping beds, cut down more dead shrubbery and spread mulch.  You’d think I was paying them or something.

New Paint!

Here it is, the new color.  We finally settled on a much darker shade of the grey that we have now, which is actually almost white from sunbleaching and oxidation.  Yes, it’s been that long – 20 years – since the original paint job.  That door had several different color splashes on it last week, including a weird beige one that everyone hated.  And for the record, that’s how much space one of those little sample jars of paint will cover.  Just in case you’re considering a paint project of your own and need to know.

We’ll find some, or it will find us.  Oh wait!  We saw the new Superman movie.  It was good.  There were LOTS of explosions, buildings tumbling, and destruction of public property, though.  The daughters and I thought Superman was cute.  Mr. Pea and the sons liked it.

Minutes – June 17

Praying for – friends who still need permanent work; a friend who is emerging from her grief after the loss of her husband last winter; peace in my soul

Grateful for – more, unexpected rain; new friends; honest work; chocolate and margaritas

Back in the saddle again!  I pulled out Princess Grace, asked The Architect to give her a tune-up and hit the trails with the family for the first time in what feels like forever.  Thirty some miles on Saturday morning, sixteenish on Sunday.  I no longer have the opportunity to ride during my lunch hour, so I’m going to start working some pedal time in on weeknight evenings.  Yes, I can, because those man-boys at my house are learning to cook and are perfectly capable of preparing dinner in my absence.  Or they can just ride with me and we’ll eat later.

::pondering

Aging. It occurred to me that between Mr. Pea and I, we’re 100 years old – 100 years worth of grace, love and life. I recall feeling slightly anxious when I was interviewing for the new job about the fact that I am no longer a young woman, fresh and bright with anticipation of things to come. It’s okay, though.  I can claim some small portion of wisdom; experience enough to be truly compassionate; and a richness of blessings that I didn’t have in my youth.

Almost finished knitting a summer sweater just in time for the ‘official’ start of summer, and have the most scrumptious yarn waiting to begin a wrap for this fall. It’s called Color Affection, and will look sort of like this…

…except mine will be a marvelous shade of green at the inside edge and a luscious thistle purple at the outside edge, with a variegated green/purple/beige in the middle.  Because I like green and purple together. Really.

DirtBike has a new [to him] toy – a Nitro RC car that goes really, really fast. Really. Fast.  It needs some work, and he’s all excited about fixing it up and making it better. Faster. Faster, I tell you!

Texas Plume (ipomopsis rubra) along the bike trail.  My phone can’t quite capture the luminosity of this wildflower.  It positively glows in the sunlight.

Picking out potential new floor coverings!  We’ve lived here for 22 years, and are in desperate need of new flooring (we’re still walking on the original carpeting).  I want to ditch carpet completely and put back either wood, slate or both.
