Sew What! – First Project

Seriously…I really did make a denim skirt!  However, I made it for Teen Daughter#2, who tossed it in her bag and promptly left for her best friend’s house last Thursday evening.  I’ve barely seen her since then, much less been able to pin her down to take a picture or two.

It’s a plain vanilla cut the legs off a pair of jeans and make a teeny-tiny mini skirt. There was a little manipulation of the seams, a quick stitch around the bottom and then trimming of the leftover fringe after washing.  All told, it took me a total of 30 minutes, not including washing machine or clothesline time.

I have a devious plan for this weeks project.  It’s not exactly a purse as directed, but it will be something to hold something else, and it’s a functional article that I REALLY need!!  I plan to use up some stash fabric for this one, and to practice my applique skills for the required verbage decoration.

Learning to Run – Week Sixish, Second Run and DATE NIGHT!!

I checked the calendar, and it is indeed week six of learning to run.  I DID run today, but only a mile, because it was 101 degrees outside!!!  Ugh. I came in and did a cardio workout with Buff Chad and the office guys.

We somehow ended up with ALL four kiddos out of the house tonight, so it’s DATE NIGHT!!  Hubs and I went to our favorite hole-in-the-wall Italian joint and spend a leisurely hour over dinner.  (I was so good, eating only a salad and half an order of chicken marsala – NO pasta!)  It’s starting off as a grand weekend.

Learning to Run Week Five/Six, Whichever Number Run, Kayaking and WOW!!!

Okay.  I admit I’ve lost track!  We had a marvelous Memorial Day weekend, visiting friends and lazing around.  I didn’t get any running in; however, I did go kayaking.  Yes, we finally procured Teen Son#1’s very belated Christmas Present, a pair of kayaks, paddles and new adult sized life vests.  (We admit to being terrible parents, letting such things as a total ABSENCE of kayaks in stores in the middle of winter,  an early spring plagued with two rounds of the flu and then a late spring washed away in an abundance of rain get prevent us from obtaining our Darling Son’s Christmas present ON TIME.  Bad Mom and Dad!)
What a marvelous way to earn those WW activity points!!  Fresh air, open water, and fun kids to paddle with.
That said, I DID run today.  I did a complete mile without stopping.  Only because Buff Chad (our trainer here at work) was watching and I couldn’t cheat.  Now I’m totally amazed at myself.  I ran a WHOLE MILE without stopping .
The WOW??  I lost another 3.5 pounds last week, and bypassed my 5% goal.

Yeahbut, these are the actual kayaks
we procured!
