Friday Favorites – An Amazing Testimony…and Shoes

Last Thursday, I had the opportunity to hear the most amazing testimony to God’s Grace and Providence.  I was privledged to hear Michael Franzese speak at the Fort Worth Christian Prayer Breakfast.
Michael Franzese grew up as the son of the notorious Underboss of New York’s violent and feared Colombo crime family. At his most affluent, he generated an estimated $5 to $8 million per week from legal and illegal businesses. It was a life filled with power, luxury…and deadly violence.  What turned him around?  God put a woman in his life, one who lead him away from crime and introduced him to the loving Grace of our Lord. They were married in 1985, and against what would seem to be impossible odds, have built a strong, happy marriage and have raised four children.

Michael Franzese is the only high ranking official of a major crime family to ever walk away from the mob, without protective custodies, and survive.

You can read his complete bio here, and meet his wife, Camille, here.
Michael began and ended his testimony with a prayer request for his father, Sonny, who is serving a life sentence for his mob involvement.  Michael continutes to witness to his father, telling him of God’s salvation, but Sonny is a hard nut to crack.  Please throw your prayers to heaven for  Sonny!

Wanty – My Doctor's Scale

I had a doctor’s appointment today for my allergies. (Yeah.  They’re that bad.)  According to the scale in her office, I am down TWELVE POUNDS!!!  I know there’s no earthly way I could have possibly lost 12 pounds since Sunday, so it must be her scale.  I wanted to shove it in my handbag Mary Poppins style and take it home with me.

Learning to Run Week Two – NOPE!

Gads!!  I started running today, and the WIND is ferocious out there!  It took my breath away, and then the allergies started and I was coughing and sneezing, and my eyes were watering so badly that I almost ran into a tree.  Seriously.
I turned around and scooted back to the office, where I did 40 minutes of Pilates in my office.  Really!  Laying on the floor between my desk and my work table.  Did you know that there are FREE video podcasts on iTunes with Pilates workouts?  I found one, loaded it up on the computer and did Pilates, right here!  In the Privacy of my Own Office!
I wonder what they guys thought when they walked by and saw me lying on the floor doing leg kicks?  They already don’t know exactly how to deal with me…I’m the only female professional engineer in our entire company.  In fact, I’m the only female on this side of the building.  The company changed the sign on one of the mens bathrooms when I was hired so that there would be a ladies bathroom.
I did cheat a little today….ate five potato chips. Wasted 1.5 WW points on some salty, crunchy goodness.  Pfffft!
