::thankful – for rain!

::praying for – for my children; for more rain.

::remission – This week marks my one year anniversary. One year since Dr. W. looked at me with tears in her eyes and said, “The pathology report is not good.  They found cancer cells in every sample.” The moments that followed have crystallized in my mind, forever held with other breathless moments of my life; first, that endless gap between the sound of her voice registering on my brain cells and the tears beginning to fall, those seconds where I hung suspended, frozen.  Then, the following second when the universe gasped for air and I Knew. After months of suspecting that something was not quite right, I knew the awful ugly truth of it.

“I’m so sorry. You have cancer.”

One. Whole. Year. It’s been a very long year, my friends, and I can’t tell you how grateful I am to be here to celebrate this milestone.

::delicious –  Yes!  I have a Plan this Week!

  • Grilled Chicken, Broccoli and a Salad
  • Baked Ziti, Spinach Salad
  • Swedish Meatballs, Garlic Roasted Potatoes and Veggies
  • Pizza and Salad
  • Chicken Soup and Grilled Cheese Sandwiches
  • Grilled Salmon, Saffron Rice, Peas
  • Pork Roast, (smoked in the BGE), Sweet Potatos, Green Beans

::creative – Ahhh…I’ve started knitting something for Mr. Pea. I’ve knitted jillions of things over the years for the children, for myself and for friends, but nothing for Mr. Pea since I made this sweater for him (egads!) 29 years ago!!

2014.11.05 Sweater

Yep.  I made that sweater on the right for Mr. Pea for Christmas the year we got engaged. I worked on it while I was studying for semester finals in college, in-between concrete and structural steel design classes, and DURING traffic engineering class.  I’m amazed that I was able to find the pattern still available out there on the internet!  What I’m knitting now is considerably smaller, but something he will enjoy.

::this week – Work and school, a field trip for DirtBike, a robotics trip for The Architect, planning for Thanksgiving.  I’m cooking this year!!  YAHOOOO!!!!!!

Keep the Faith.

::thankful – for returning to the Land of the Living!

::praying for – healing for Mr. Pea’s knee after surgery; for my children; for rain.

::remission – recovery has been rocky, which explains my long absence.  The hole in my shoulder just refused to heal, so I was referred to a Wound Care and Infectious Disease Specialist.  Turns out that the original infection was more than just plain vanilla….I had staph.  It took ten weeks (forever and a day) of antibiotics, dressing changes, doctor visits, more antibiotics, collagen, and enough über expensive special bandaids to cover a small army until the infection cleared and the hole in my shoulder healed and closed up. After months of gross and discomfort, I’m happy to report that I am completely encased in skin once again and feeling quite chipper.

::fun – In fact, I’m feeling chipper enough to put some more miles on my bike!  I made a ten-mile ride on a dirt trail a few weeks ago with the family, and this past weekend I rode with the Bombshells in a local charity ride.  It was so wonderful to see everyone again, and to be seen.  And Thank You, Roxie, for staying behind the group and riding at my slower pace and shorter distance, and for graciously stopping to rest along the route with me. Believe me, my strength is ten-fold what it was a few months ago and I hope to be able to keep up with everyone soon!

::delicious – Can I just wing it this week?  There’s a batch of butternut squash soup in the fridge,and the makings of Chili for Friday, but beyond that, I’m just not with it!

::creative – The Architect informed me he needs “Pirate Boots” for Halloween, and then proceeds to come home from work with some pieces of leather looking fabric.  Genius that I am, I whipped up a pair of boot covers for his old cowboy boots.  I love projects like this!! (The Architect cleaned and polished his boots after this picture was taken….they “blend” better now with the covers.)

::this week – Work and school, and a Scary Nighttime Ride with the Mayor!

Keep the Faith.

::faithful

praying for Michelle and her family.  Breast cancer has won another battle – a very hard fought battle.  Prayers for strength and comfort for all of them as they navigate these end days.

::pondering

Parenting quasi-adult kids.  We no longer give direction and instruction.  We simply act as a sounding board as they work out their own problems.  It’s hard to not blurt out the right answer, but I manage to bite my toungue.  Experience is the best teacher.

::Homey

Is fall here yet? The boys pulled out the Halloween decorations.  Now it needs to get cooler.

::creative

Squeee!!  Baby sweater on the knitting needles!  It’s adorable, all stripey brown and cream.  Next in the queue is a pair of fuzzy pink booties for another baby.  I like that all my young friends are having babies.

::The Project

I started researching appliances this week. I’m looking for a largish all in one stove, because I want to move my oven.  Right now, it’s in the wall right next to the fridge, and it vents out into the kitchen because there are cabinets all around and over it.  A one piece stove located on the adjacent wall under a new vent will work better.

::delicious

  • Steak, Mashed Potatotes, Spinach Salad
  • Turkey Sandwiches on Croissants and Veggie Soup
  • Chili Frito Pie (Thanks, Jenny, for the idea!)
  • Barbeque Chicken, Green Beans and Something Else
  • Veggie Lasagna, if I can figure out how to ‘bake’ it in a crockpot
  • Grilled Ginger Orange Salmon, Saffron Rice and Peas
  • Bean Soup with Ham, Cornbread Muffins (baked in my friend’s kitchen)

::fun
