Minutes – July 23

Praying for

  • Jen, with prayers of thanksgiving!  The chemo has worked it’s wonders, and her leukemia is once again in remission.  Adding prayers for healing, for while the chemo did it’s job, the side effects are lingering and unpleasant.
  • Kevin, that he finds work soon
Grateful for
  • My childrens’ birthdays, as they provide a welcome respite in hectic times of the year.  And a viable reason to eat cake.
  • Summer rain and its marvelous smell that tickles my memory and recalls summers of childhood.
  • Watermelon

This week the Pea Family is gearing up for the Tour de Cure.  We’ll have a few short rides this week (15 miles or less) and then the big ride on Saturday.  We’re still collecting donations for our ride, donations that go directly to support the American Diabetes Association for education, research and outreach for folks like me who live with diabetes.

If you’re interested in more information or want to join the ride, email me directly (click on my signature at the bottom of the post) and I’ll get you hooked up!

Bicycles.  The Architect, Princess Pea and DirtBike have been rebuilding two of the older bicycles in our shed.  The road bike belonged to Mr. Pea when he was a kid; the mountain bike is mine from 20+ years ago.  The Pea Kids have stripped them down, repainted the frames and are now working on reconstructing the gears and breaks.  What talented kids I have!  I think Princess Pea has aspirations of pedaling the road bike in the Tour de Cure.

The lineup this week includes

  • Hamburgers, again, because it’s just the summertime thing to do.  Maybe I’ll feel inspired and saute some mushrooms to go with.
  • Spaghetti and Meatballs
  • Grilled Chicken, Spinach salad with strawberries and fresh corn
  • Dinner with Friends one evening – Yeah!
  • Sandwiches because it’s too hot to cook
  • Leftover sandwiches because it’s too hot to think

::fun

Hmm.m.m  not too much actual fun planned this week as of the typing of these minutes.  I’ll have to remedy that by Friday and get back to you.

::looking ahead

Oh Mercy.  The back to school and off to college madness begins  This week includes visits to the dentist and optometrist, fetching new glasses, the purchasing of new school shoes, searching for textbooks online, sending in college tuition payments (don’t forget, Angela!), and culling through our kitchen and household supplies to divide out and pack up what Princess Pea and her BFF will need to set up housekeeping in their college apartment.  Hmmm…I did the same for Cherry Ames a few years ago, so I wonder if all the stuff has multiplied and replenished?

Friday’s Letters – July 20

friday's letters

Dear Mr. May – Have I every told you how much I admire your photos? I mean, I admire you, too, because you’re just a super neat person, but today?  Today’s photographic offering is particularly striking.  First because they are all black and white and I am a total sucker for black and white photos; and second, because my heart zings with glee when I see your perspective on buildings and places I pass (and slightly ignore) every day walking or biking.  It makes me anxious to get outside and go see what you see!

Ya’ll can see Mr. May’s photos HERE!!  Seriously.  Go see.  And take a moment to smile at the Grandbaby on on the right side of the blog.

Dear Princess Pea – Whoa!  What an amazing find on the chairs for your apartment!

Dear Windowsill Dove – What a good job you did sitting on those eggs!  I can see two little babies poking out from under you now.  Sorry, friends, I tried to get a picture of the wee babes, but Windowsill Dove would not cooperate and stand up for me.  She’s much more protective of the fluffy babies than she was of the eggs.  Perhaps in a few days when she needs to go fetch food for them I can get a good shot.

Dear Mr. McClendon – Thank you for the lovely compliment on the project plans at the bid opening yesterday.  We engineers don’t get positive feedback on the plans we create very often.  Heck, we hardly EVER get to hear “That was a great set of plans!”  We’re more likely to hear “I wouldn’t build it that way,” or “You left out this or that.”  Thank you!  Now lets’ get busy building this road.

Dear Chocolate Brownie – You were delicious.

I continue to get in many miles a week on Princess Grace, as well as keep up with CrossFit classes.  I’m amazed that I can do 100 pushups in a single workout now, and it no longer hurts for days after.    I wish I hadn’t wasted so many of my younger years not being fit.  The plan going forward is to be the healthiest, strongest, coolest Grandma in the world in another five years or so.

It’s done!  Finished, wrapped up and delivered to lovely Baby Bean.

::fun

The entire Pea Family rode in the Parker County Peach Festival this weekend. 26 miles of fun for all of us except The Architect.  He only did the 9 mile loop because he rode in the Smurf Boy endurance race the same evening:  four hours of single track goodness.  There wasn’t a junior division, so he was riding with the big boys, men 39 and under. He came in 6th place, completing 6 loops in the four hours, stopping only to change flat tires and refill water bottles.  Oh, and the last hour or so of the race was in the DARK!  With Headlamps!

::looking ahead

Our next family bike ride will the the Tour de Cure – we’re shooting for the 60 mile ride, but may finish at the 30 mile marker.  It depends on how blasted hot it turns out to be that morning…
