Friday’s Letters – October 26

friday's letters

Dear Self – You had a true moment of grace this week.  The day had already been difficult with the many demands on your brain cells.  Then came the notes from not one, but TWO teachers about DirtBike and homework not turned in, homework that you KNEW was in his binder. Then there was the forgotten math book that was needed to study for a test the next day…too bad, so sad.  Pile on a last-minute discovery that in order to participate in the planned Bike To the Graveyard Dressed Like A Zombie outing with the boys, lights on the bike were a must…and the boys hadn’t put your lights in the car with theirs like you asked, so nobody got to ride. Add to that the frustration of misplaced keys (someone had borrowed them and left them in the gym downstairs), a Husband who would not answer his phone, a mad dash to the pharmacy only to find they needed to order a prescription, a burnt finger, a stupid dog rolling in something dead and you were already screeching like a banshee and about thirty seconds from slapping someone silly.  Then…

…then you stopped.  You threw a desperate prayer to heaven for, for – anything.  You didn’t even know what to ask for.  And it was given. The anger? Gone.  The grimace of fury? Gone.  Not just for you, but for everyone in the room.  Ahhh…to forever and always live in that Moment of Grace.

Dear Architect – Well look at you!  FIVE miles on the bike yesterday.  And you fixed DirtBike’s gears on his bike, too.  That almost makes up for taking all of the silk plants from the house to school to use in the Homecoming Jurassic Park decor where they got TOSSED in the trash during cleanup.

Dear Harney & Sons Hot Cinnamon Spice Tea – *sigh*  If it weren’t so weird, I’d brew a tub full and bathe in you.  Since it is weird, I’ll just continue to buy tea leaves by the pound and drink you by the gallon.

Dear Mrs. R. – Thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking DirtBike to task about being responsible for his homework.  He needs to hear it from someone else besides Mom and Dad, as that’s just the kind of kid he is.

Dear Weatherman –  I love you today.  I’m wearing a purple sweater!!!

Dear Cherry Ames – So Pretty!  I’m glad you had a wonderful time at formal. And that guy you’re with?  He’s beginning to grow on me.  He’ll be in when he gets a salaried job.

Dear Princess Pea – I can’t wait to see you tonight!!

Minutes – October 22

::faithful

Praying for

  • The Rotramel Family – Jen found her miracle in heaven Saturday.  Please pray for her family, for her husband Logan Ronhovde.  They are torn with grief today.
Grateful for
  • a tuition exemption for Cherry Ames for her nursing school years, a surprise blessing resulting from my military service.
  • the opportunity to teach at the college level
  • flu shots

::healthy

I’m on hiatus this week, regrouping and making a plan to move forward and lose these last seven pounds that have been lingering on my frame for a year now.  Yes, exercise will be done, and calories will be accounted for.

::creative

Mom’s Pretty Knitted Thing is coming along, more than half way finished.

The only other creative thing that happened this past week was clearing out the craft cabinet, sorting, purging, and smiling at the re-found treasures in there.

::delicious

  • Steak, Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Spinach Salad
  • Cilantro Chicken Wonton Soup
  • Pizza, Tossed Salad
  • Roasted Tilapia, Tomatoes and Cauliflower
  • Garlic Lime Chicken, Mixed Veggies, Spinach Salad
  • Two More Meals are up to the Guys, as I’ll be away on a business trip…that means they’ll be hitting up Jimmy John’s Subs and Kincaid’s Burgers!

::fun

Wrapping up research with DirtBike for History Fair project, helping The Architect build the trebuchet!

Last weekly ride with the Mayor for the season.  The Architect thinks he’ll be able to handle at least half at a slower pace.  We just can’t miss this one, as it involves dressing like a Zombie and riding with headlights.

::looking ahead

A trip to Austin for the Texas Society of Professional Engineers board meeting, followed by a quick dash over to Aggieland to see Princess Pea!!  I haven’t hugged her since August!  Pre-Construction meeting with the contractor for a street and waterline rehab, and health insurance renewal time.

Friday’s Letters – October 19

friday's letters

Dear Homecoming Week–  Yeah!  The big game is tonight!  I love high school football.  Oh!  I heard something funny from a friend of mine.  Her grand-nephew plays pee-wee football, and she called it Bobble Head Football.  Why?  Because little boys look so silly with their skinny bodies and chicken legs and that big huge helmet on their heads!

Dear Architect – Aren’t you glad those stitches are OUT?  I’m sorry you still have to keep it taped up for a little while longer.   It’s for a good reason – that scar is going to be big enough without stretching it out before it heals completely.  Don’t worry – you’ll be strong enough to get back on that bike in a few more weeks.  And you’re right.  It was a very good thing that you had shaved your legs in preparation for that race the morning of the accident.  It would have been a bear changing bandages and tapes and such with bear-hairy legs.

Dear East Side Breakfast Cartel –  Wow.  I love it when it’s my turn to cook breakfast for the Cartel.  Nothing beats fresh waffles in the conference room at work on a Friday morning.

Except maybe homemade Meyer lemon marmalade to spoon on top of the waffles.

Dear Princess Pea – A ‘B’ on your Chemistry Exam?  HAPPY DANCE TIME!!  I’m so proud of you, Honey!

Dear UTA Department of Civil Engineering – What can I say?  I am absolutely DELIGHTED to be on staff now!  I’m going teach a college course, my friends!!
